Professor Moh’d Makame Haji, Vice Chancellor of the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), held a meeting with a delegation from South Africa’s University of Limpopo. The meeting took place today, June 19, 2025, at the conference hall on the Tunguu Campus.
The delegation, led by Mr. Melusi Nxumalo, Director of Student Governance and Development at the University of Limpopo, included 16 student leaders from their Student Government. The visit aims to strengthen ties and exchange ideas on student governance structures in universities.
In his remarks, Prof. Moh’d expressed his appreciation for the University of Limpopo’s choice to visit Zanzibar and SUZA, stating it provides an excellent opportunity to explore potential academic collaborations. On behalf of the academic leadership, he extended heartfelt congratulations to the delegation for their unwavering commitment to strengthening the historical ties between the Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of South Africa. The visit signifies more than a academic exchange—it reaffirms the enduring values that both nations have long championed: solidarity, mutual respect, and the pursuit of knowledge. He also encouraged the delegation to take time to explore Zanzibar’s tourist attractions and visit other SUZA campuses, including the historic Vuga campus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where they can also experience Kiswahili language learning for visitors.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Mr. Melusi expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the SUZA community for their warm hospitality and generous spirit. He emphasized that the visit was not merely ceremonial, but a significant milestone marking the beginning of a long-term partnership between the two institutions. He further noted that such a relationship holds great promise in fostering innovative and sustainable solutions to the pressing challenges faced by African youth—particularly in the realms of education, employment, and civic engagement. By strengthening ties in higher education, the collaboration will serve as a catalyst for regional integration, mutual empowerment, and academic excellence rooted in shared African values and aspirations.
On the other hand, Dr. Hashim Hamza Chande, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance, Planning, and Administration, commended the delegation for their initiative and urged them to act as ambassadors for Zanzibar upon their return to South Africa.
The delegation arrived yesterday and will be in Zanzibar for a four-day visit organized by SUZA’s Department of Student Welfare in collaboration with the SUZA Student Organization (SUZASO).
