The State University of Zanzibar strongly believes in equal opportunities on the basis of merits in admissions. The University places importance on the applicant’s potential to achieve academic success in the chosen programme of study. Hence selection is based on the applicant’s previous academic record and relevant character traits.
SUZA adheres to the application process in accordance with the harmonised academic calendar issued by TCU and directives of the SENATE. The basic procedures in the application process include the following guidelines:
Applicants who want to join for doctorate programme should be the graduate of a master’s degree (UQF level 9) in a relevant discipline/area or equivalent with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or B grade.
The specific entry requirement outlined in the curriculum shall be considered in admitting any applicants for the PhD Programme without violating the minimum requirement set by the TCU.
A University shall admit into a master’s degree programme (all types) an applicant who has:
a) a relevant academic bachelor’s degree (UQF level 8) or equivalent with GPA of 2.7 or B grade; OR
b) a postgraduate diploma in a relevant discipline/area or equivalent with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or B grade; OR
c) a professional training qualification with additional relevant training, evidence of research capability and relevant working experience.
However, the specific entry requirement outlined in the curriculum shall be considered in admitting any applicants for the master’s programme without violating the minimum requirements set by the TCU.
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with two principal passes with a total of 4.0 points in two Subjects (except for health- related programmes)
A = 5; B = 4; C = 3; D = 2; E = 1; S = 0.5 and F = 0 point
The minimum principal pass in this case, is an ‘E’ grade.
A = 5; B+ = 4; B = 3; C = 2; D = 1; E = 0.5 and F = 0 point.
The minimum principal pass in this case, is a ‘D’ grade.
For health-related programmes, the applicant must have 6 points from three subjects as described below:
For Medical Doctor and Dental Surgery Programmes, the applicant must have a minimum of D grade in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
For Bachelor of Environmental Health, the applicant must have a minimum of C in Chemistry, D in Biology and E in Geography, Physics, Mathematics or Nutrition.
An appropriate equivalent Diploma of a GPA not less than 3.0 with four passes at the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with no religious subjects. For health programmes, the applicant must have five passes at CSEE with no religious subjects
Applicant from form six level (ACSEE) must have a minimum of One principal pass and One subsidiary from the principal subject
A certificate from a recognized higher learning institution with four passes at CSEE. For this qualification, the applicant can apply for the two-year diploma programmes (except for health-related programmes)
Applicants from form four (CSEE) must have a minimum of Four (4) passes (minimum “D”). With this qualification, one can apply for a three-year diploma only.
For certificate applicants, one must have a minimum of four passes (minimum “D”) at the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE).
Any registered students who want to resume study after being postponed shall write the letter to Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic Research and Consultancy not more than two weeks after the commencement of the new academic semester in the respective academic year he/she wants to resume
Foreign students shall observe and comply with the immigration regulations and other related laws of the land.
Foreign applicants who come from a country where the medium of instruction is not English shall submit proof of English Proficiency.
Foreign students who come to study Kiswahili programmes shall have to sit for a Kiswahili proficiency test or undergo a one-year special Kiswahili language course offered by the University.
