Prof. Said A. H. Vuai is a distinguished Tanzanian scholar and multidisciplinary researcher with notable contributions to chemistry, environmental sciences, and public health. He earned his BSc in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam, and later pursued MSc and Ph.D. degrees in Marine and Environmental Sciences at the University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan, specializing in Environmental Analytical Chemistry and Geochemistry. In 2014, he completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Siena, Italy, focusing on Environmental Sustainability Assessment through Life Cycle Assessment, Emergy, and Ecological Footprint methodologies. Before his appointment as Vice Chancellor of the State University of Zanzibar, he served as Professor of Chemistry and Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic, Research and Consultancy at Mbeya University of Science and Technology, and previously held senior leadership roles at the University of Dodoma. He is also the Founder and Director of the Dodoma. Demographic Surveillance System.

Prof. Vuai’s research spans computational biochemistry, forensic toxicology, water contamination, waste management, atmospheric trace metals, and life cycle assessment in agriculture. His work further extends to nutrition and public health, maternal and newborn care, adolescent health, and substance abuse. He has authored over 80 scientific papers, holds two patents and four innovation grants, and has led projects funded by Erasmus+, UNICEF, TWAS, CODESRIA, COSTECH, and VicRes. A member of the ARISE Network, he has collaborated with research groups across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the USA, and served on numerous national and international advisory boards, bridging science with policy and societal impact.
