The State University Of Zanzibar

School Of Agriculture (SoA)

The School of Agriculture (SoA) was formally known as Kizimbani Agricultural Training Institute (KATI)

School Of Agriculture (SOA)

The School of Agriculture (SOA) was the Sole Zanzibar Agricultural Training Institute and was named as Kizimbani Agricultural Training Institute (KATI). The School of Agriculture has now been expanded following merging with SUZA.

Historically, SOA was established in 2007 by the Act of the Zanzibar House of Representatives, “KATI Act No. 5 of 2007”. This history dates back to late 1980s when its predecessor; the Kizimbani Training Centre was established with the main task of providing short-agricultural technical training at certificate level of 1998.

SOA offers an innovative pedagogical model of learning that is integrating classroom and hands-on experience aimed at preparing students to master the agricultural allied sciences.  Students are prepared to graduate at Kizimbani Agricultural Training Institute by experiencing a curriculum that foster the needs of our smallholder farmers.

Our Institute also undertakes innovative interdisciplinary consultancy services in agricultural allied sciences to continually influence partnerships with other academic institutions within and overseas.

It is located 16km North East of Zanzibar Town, within the vicinity of the Zanzibar Agricultural Research Institute (ZARI).
