The Institute of Maritime Studies (IMS) is a newly established academic institute dedicated to providing education and training in the blue economy sectors, including maritime transport, logistics and port management, and fisheries technologies.
The institute will offer academic degree and diploma programmes, alongside professional courses, to train marine engineers, navigators, logistics and port managers, and fishers of all kinds.
The institute is located at the Beit-el-Raas campus, where state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities are being constructed in line with the requirements of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) as stipulated in conventions that govern the training of seafarers for merchant ships as well as fishing vessels, namely the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) and the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel (STCW-F), respectively.
