The School’s goal is to support students’ learning of the scientific approach to knowledge acquisition for the attainment of scientific based knowledge.
Creation of a centre of excellence to cater for the needs of people of Zanzibar in particular and Tanzania in general as well as to help the development of East African region.
Provision of access to lifelong learning opportunity to wide audience including general public, professionals, business community and residents of Zanzibar, Tanzania, and other regions.
Dr. Abdallah Rashid Mkumbukwa is a lecturer in History and Dean of School of Natural and Social Sciences at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA). He has experience in academic management as he is a former Head of Department of Arts and Member of Senate of SUZA in 2009. Also, he was a Coordinator of History and Archaeology programmes at SUZA. Dr. Mkumbukwa is also currently serving as a Member of SUZA Senate and General Secretary of the Historical Association of Tanzania (HAT).
Dr Mkumbukwa is recipient of a German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD) scholarship and the Norwegian Council for Higher Education’s Programme for Development, Research and Education (NUFU) Scholarship. He has experience in teaching and research in areas of natural and social sciences on historical perspectives. He has written a book and published on history of spread and control of malaria in Zanzibar, Wildlife conservation policies in Tanzania and history of use and conservation of marine resources in Zanzibar as well as social development issues.
