The School of Natural and Social Sciences (SNSS) at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) was established in October 2012 following the University restructuring process. The School is responsible for teaching, research, consultancy, and community engagement in the fields of natural sciences, social sciences, environmental studies, and the blue economy. It offers diverse diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programmes designed to meet national, regional, and international needs. The School is committed to specialized training, academic excellence, research, innovation, and community engagement, with the goal of becoming a Centre of excellence that attracts students and academic partners from Eastern Africa and beyond.
School Mission: Creation of a center of excellence to provide inclusive, innovative, and high-quality education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; advance impactful research, innovation, and knowledge creation. It engages with communities and stakeholders to develop competent, ethical, and entrepreneurial graduates who contribute to sustainable development and the socio-economic transformation of Zanzibar, Tanzania, and beyond.
School Objectives: Provision of access to lifelong learning opportunity to wide audience including general public, professionals, business community and residents of Zanzibar, Tanzania, and other regions national and international. The school currently has two departments, namely the Department of Natural Sciences (DNS) and the Department of Social Sciences (DSS)
Our Mission
Creation of a centre of excellence to cater for the needs of people of Zanzibar in particular and Tanzania in general as well as to help the development of East African region.

Provision of access to lifelong learning opportunity to wide audience including general public, professionals, business community and residents of Zanzibar, Tanzania, and other regions.

Our Main Strategies
- Targeting adult segment of the community and needy clients.
- The use of both traditional and modern training methods and techniques including personal contacts, multimedia and cyber network.
- Conducting programmes at appropriate and convenient times to trainees mostly in the afternoon’s evenings.
- Allowing payment by instalments while attending the courses.
Dr. Miza Ali Kombo
Dr. Miza is a Senior Lecturer in Chemistry at the School of Natural and Social Sciences, Department
of Natural Science. Dr. Miza is a holder of a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the prestigious University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), MSc. in Chemistry from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and a BSc. With Education (Chemistry and Biology) at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA). Dr. Miza’s research bridges academia and industry, advancing inorganic and environmental chemistry
