Confucius Classroom at the State University of Zanzibar
The Confucius Classroom at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), Tanzania, was established through an agreement signed in April 2022 and officially unveiled in March 2024. Jointly run by SUZA and Zhejiang Normal University as partner institutions, the Confucius Classroom has made steady progress in its operation through close collaboration between the two universities.
Major achievements include:
- Successful launch of offline Chinese language training programmes
- Official accreditation as HSK examination centre in Zanzibar
- In addition, the Confucius Classroom at SUZA hosts the Chinese Language Proficiency Tests (HSK and HSKK) and provides scholarships for students with prescribed qualifications to study Chinese in China.
- organizes the China Summer Camps and the Zanzibar Education Delegate Tour to China every year.
Curriculum Development & Chinese Language Teaching
The Confucius Classroom offers Chinese certificate and diploma programmes at three SUZA institutes, complemented by language training partnerships with institutions, such as Zanzibar University and Leera School. Over the past two academic years, the programmes have enrolled 735 students. And the provision of weekend the Chinese language tuition class,for Chinese language proficence test traning classes.
Student Development and Scholarships
The Confucius Classroom actively identifies and nurtures high-performing Chinese language learners, and offers them various scholarship opportunities to continue their studies in China,like Chinese Government Scholarship, International Chinese Teacher Scholarship and Zhejiang Normal University Scholarship,etc. Last year, 3 students from the Confucius Classroom at SUZA received the full International Chinese Teacher Scholarship to study at Zhejiang Normal University.The Confucius Classroom at SUZA works out the Scholarship in Chinese Language Course, providing 1,250,000Tsh every year for for 15 outstanding students
Student Clubs & Cultural Activities & Chinese Language Competition
Through its Chinese Language and Culture Club, the Confucius Classroom organizes various cultural programmes and Chinese language cultural activities, which attracted over 1,530 participants in the 2023-2024 academic year.
Every year, outstanding college students from the Confucius Classroom are recommended to participate in the “Chinese Bridge” World University Chinese Language Competition and the “Chinese Bridge” World Primary School Chinese Language Show.
– In the 2025 “Chinese Bridge” Primary School Chinese Language Show, students from Leera School won the championship and will represent Tanzania to participate in the final competition in China.
China Summer Camps for students and the Zanzibar Education Delegate Tour to China
