Bio

Prof. Jamal Jumanne Athuman is an Associate Professor of Education Studies and currently serves as the Deputy Vice for Planning, Finance and Administration (DVC-PFA) in THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF ZANZIBAR (SUZA). 

He was a Dean of the School of Education at Sokoine University of Agriculture. He holds a PhD in Education Studies from University of Wuppertal, a Master of Arts in Education, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from University of Dar es Salaam, and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education and Extension from Sokoine University of Agriculture.

With over two decades of professional experience, Prof. Athuman has served in various academic and leadership positions, including Secondary School Teacher, Agricultural Extension Officer, Tutorial Assistant, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Head of Department, and Dean. He has played a significant role in curriculum development, educational policy review, quality assurance, and higher education transformation initiatives in Tanzania.

Prof. Athuman has led and contributed to several nationally and internationally funded projects, including the World Bank-funded Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project, European Union education initiatives, and research programs supported by DAAD, NORHED, and other international partners. His expertise focuses on curriculum development, teacher education, educational psychology, science education, entrepreneurship education, and sustainable development.

He has also served on several national task forces responsible for curriculum review, teacher workforce development, inclusive education, and education policy reforms in Tanzania. In recognition of his academic excellence, he received the Best Researcher Award from the School of Education at SUA in 2022 and has been serving as an External Examiner for Dar es Salaam University College of Education since 2023.

Prof. Athuman has an extensive publication record, including numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, books, book chapters, and educational materials. His contributions have significantly influenced educational research, curriculum innovation, teacher professional development, and science education in Tanzania and beyond.
