The School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) is among the Schools in the State University of Zanzibar.

The School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) is among the Schools in the State University of Zanzibar. It is the result of upgrading the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE). Currently, SCOPE headquarters is located along the Vuga Road at Mnazi Mmoja within the Stone Town of Zanzibar.

SCOPE focuses on providing training for Endless Education and Expertise in various fields with a view to promoting talent for a society that is moving around at different levels. There is short training from one day to six months and a long term from one year and continuing at the level of certificate and diploma. There are also various tailor-made program’s that are provided at any time upon request of applicants.

Time of the program

Like the enrolment, programmes are conducted in the morning, afternoon and evening and in few cases during weekends. Students and their instructors can negotiate on alternative times which are convenient for the programme.

Our Mission

Creation of a centre of excellence to cater for the needs of people of Zanzibar in particular and Tanzania in general as well as to help the development of East African region.

Our Main Goals

Provision of access to lifelong learning opportunity to wide audience including general public, professionals, business community and residents of Zanzibar, Tanzania, and other regions.

Our Main Strategies

Running courses which are demand driven, more practical to the intended audience and are oriented to problem solving.
  • Targeting adult segment of the community and needy clients.
  • The use of both traditional and modern training methods and techniques including personal contacts, multimedia and cyber network.
  • Conducting programmes at appropriate and convenient times to trainees mostly in the afternoon’s evenings.
  • Allowing payment by instalments while attending the courses. 

Dr Haji Ali Haji

Dean of SCOPE

Dr. Haji Ali Haji is a Researcher and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at the State University of Zanzibar. Haji holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at University of Cape Town and Master Degree in Mobile Computer Systems (Mobile Computing) from Staffordshire University. His Bachelor’s degree is in Computer Science (Hon), he undertaken in the Department of Computer Science at the Future University (formerly the Computer Man College) in Sudan.

SCOPE uses most up-to-date computer laboratories for its programmes.  It possesses qualified and committed instructors with long experience in their field of training.  Once registered at the State University of Zanzibar, students use all facilities including computer libraries, internet and so on.
