SUZA LAUNCHES LEADERAFRICA ENCOUNTER 2026 STAFF WEEK TO STRENGTHEN INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC COLLABORATION

The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) has officially launched the LeaderAfrica Encounter 2026 Staff Week, a five-day international programme taking place from 29 June to 4 July 2026 at the Zanzibar Institute of Tourism Development (ZIToD) in Maruhubi, Zanzibar.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Minister of Education and Vocational Training Zanzibar, Hon. Lela Mohamed Mussa, said the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar continues to implement major reforms in the education sector aimed at producing highly skilled professionals capable of competing in the global labour market. She noted that the programme contributes to strengthening higher education through academic partnerships and the promotion of credit transfer systems between African and European universities.

SUZA Vice Chancellor, Prof. Said Ali Hamadi, said the university’s participation in the LeaderAfrica Encounter 2026 Staff Week will enhance collaboration with international universities through knowledge exchange, joint research, innovation, and capacity building for both academic and administrative staff.

Mrs Marcela Iglesia from the University of Cádiz, Spain, described the programme as an important platform that brings together higher education institutions from Africa and Europe to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and develop practical solutions to global challenges, including climate change.

The LeaderAfrica Encounter 2026 Staff Week will continue until 4 July 2026 with a series of academic sessions, workshops, networking activities, and institutional exchanges aimed at strengthening international partnerships, promoting research collaboration, and enhancing innovation in higher education across Africa and Europe.

The programme brings together higher education stakeholders from Africa and Europe to strengthen academic collaboration, exchange knowledge, and explore innovative approaches to addressing global and local development challenges.
