Deepening Educational and Cultural Ties
State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Moh’d Makame Haji, led a high-level delegation to China to further strengthen educational and cultural ties between the two nations. The delegation included representatives from Zanzibar University, Leera School, and other key stakeholders from the public and private sectors.
A primary focus of the visit made from 21st October to 28th October was the Confucius Classroom at SUZA, which has been instrumental in promoting Chinese language and culture in Zanzibar. Since its establishment, the Confucius Classroom has achieved significant milestones. The number of students enrolling in Chinese language courses has steadily increased, fostering a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture through various cultural events, such as Chinese language competitions, calligraphy workshops, and cultural performances. Teachers have benefited from training and resources to improve their teaching methodologies and language proficiency. Additionally, the classroom has facilitated student exchange programs with Chinese universities, providing students with opportunities to study and experience Chinese culture firsthand.
To further expand the program’s reach, SUZA plans to introduce advanced language courses, cultural workshops, and exchange programs. Both universities are committed to fostering research collaborations and addressing global challenges through this partnership. Prof. Makame expressed his gratitude to Zhejiang Normal University for their continued support and hospitality.
