SUZA IS GOING TO ESTABLISH GRANT MANAGEMENT OFFICE
The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), through the Build Strong Universities (BSU) project,
is set to establish a grant management office. The purpose of establishing the grant
management office is to enhance the institution’s ability to secure and manage external
funding efficiently. To achieve this aim, BSU has started developing a grant management
policy and building the capacity of university members to acquire knowledge in project,
finance, and grant management. The office will also offer training on grant proposal writing
to university members and researchers, enabling them to secure national and international
research grants.
It was a three-day intensive training workshop in which two BSU members attended a
workshop on project, financial, and grant management held at the University of Hargeisa in
Somaliland. The training was attended by academic staff from SUZA (Tanzania), the
University of Hargeisa (Somaliland), the University of Copenhagen, and Roskilde University
(Denmark).
The training was facilitated by experienced experts in project, finance, and grant
management, led by Christian Gregart (CG Consulting), along with Dorte Holler Johansen
(Senior Advisor, University of Copenhagen), and Camilla Riel (Research Coordinator,
Roskilde University).
Facilitators from Denmark
The training consisted of small interactive lectures, workshops, and group exercises, which
made the trainees greatly enjoy the sessions. The topics covered included the project
management cycle and project administration, financial management of research projects,
financial management of projects including pre-award, award, and post-award processes,
and special issues/challenges in financial management.
