The Department of Economics is one of four departments within the School of Business (SoB). 

Location: The School of Business campus is located approximately 30 kilometres from Unguja town, in Chwaka Village, Central District, South Unguja Region, Zanzibar.

School Vision: To be a centre of excellence serving the needs of the people of Zanzibar in particular, and Tanzania as a whole, while contributing to the development of the East African region.

Main Objective: To provide lifelong learning opportunities to the broader community, including the public, professionals, the business community, and residents of Zanzibar, Tanzania, and beyond.

The Department of Economics (DoE), School of Business (SoB), State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), currently offers one program: Bachelor Degree in Economics and Statistics, which was effectively accredited 2026/2027 academic year

The Department is in the early stages of developing two curricula: Bachelor Degree in Blue Economy and Natural Resource Economy, and a Master of Science in Applied Econometrics and Data Analysis for Policy.
