The Department of Communication and Media Studies which is situated at Kilimani Campus about 31/2 kilometres from the Stone Town along the Abeid Amani Karume International Airport road is one of the departments under the School of Computing, Communication and Media Studies of the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA). It is an academic department offering undergraduate, diploma, certificate and professional training programmes. Our curriculum covers a wide range of journalism and media study areas including news reporting and writing, broadcasting, public relations and advertising, documentary filmmaking and other media related disciplines. The department believes that ethical and equitable communication is fundamental to a just society.
The role of offering media courses was formerly performed by Zanzibar Journalism and Mass Media College (ZJMMC) before being merged with SUZA on 29th July, 2020 through Act No. 13 of 2020 which repealed Act No. 11 of 2006 of the Zanzibar House of Representatives
