Dr. Saada Omar Wahab is a Lecturer within the School of Natural and Social Sciences at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA). She is member of the Department of Social Sciences where she has served as the Program Coordinator for History and Archaeology since 2022. Dr. Wahab holds a PhD in Social Science from the University of Göttingen, Germany (2023), an MA in History from the University of Dar es Salaam (2010), and a BA with Education from SUZA (2007). Her standing in the academic community is further evidenced by her role as a certified reviewer for Zamani, a journal of African Historical Studies, where she contributes her expertise to the evaluation of scholarly research in the region. Her research capacity is centred on the socio-legal history of Islamic slavery and manumission, with a specific focus on gender dynamics and the lives of diaspora communities. She is deeply invested in the preservation of the cultural heritage of these communities along the East African coast.
