Dr. Kijakazi Omar Makame is a Lecturer in Kiswahili holding a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Kiswahili and a Master of Arts (MA) in Kiswahili, both from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Education (BA. Ed) with a major in Kiswahili from the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA). Dr. Kijakazi has an established record of scholarly publication, having contributed articles to academic journals and co-authored a Kiswahili language textbook for foreign learners. She has also served as Assistant Editor of the Jahazi Journal, published by the Zanzibar Kiswahili Council (BAKIZA). In terms of professional engagement, Dr. Kijakazi has served as a Member of the Zanzibar Kiswahili Council (BAKIZA) and as a Member of the Board of the Copyright Society of Zanzibar (COSOZA), reflecting her broader commitment to language policy and intellectual property matters in Zanzibar. Throughout her academic career at SUZA, Dr. Kijakazi has held several distinguished leadership positions, including Head of the Department of Kiswahili for Foreigners, Head of the Global Centre for Kiswahili Studies and Advancement and Head of the Department of Kiswahili in the School of Kiswahili and Foreign Languages.
