Dr Haji Ali Haji is a Researcher and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at the State University of Zanzibar. Haji holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at University of Cape Town and Master Degree in Mobile Computer Systems (Mobile Computing) from Staffordshire University. His Bachelor’s degree is in Computer Science (Hon), he undertaken in the Department of Computer Science at the Future University (formerly the Computer Man College) in Sudan.
Dr Haji teaches various undergraduate and postgraduate courses including, introduction to computer system, mobile applications design and development, artificial intelligence, geographic information system, database management system, programming principles in C++/JAVA, data structure and algorithm and visual basic. He also conducted several in-service and pre-service trainers, at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
In his career Dr Haji has been involved in several consultation and research activities including those in professional development: adoption of ICT in digital education, curriculum development for secondary schools, enhancing entrepreneurship, ICT, innovation and sustainability in higher education, and strengthening disaster prevention approaches using artificial intelligence system.
Dr Haji has several publication related to ICT use in teaching and learning, the use of mobile phone in healthcare, agriculture, and livelihood.
Haji research interest including Mobile Computing, Educational Technology, Human Computer Interaction, Geographic Information System, ICT4D, Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things. His PhD research based on the Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D). He was specifically looking for a mobile graphic-based application to support tuberculosis treatment in developing countries particularly for illiterate and semi-literate patients. Haji also conducted many researches including integration of ICT use in teaching and learning; mobile phone uses for livelihood and adaption of ICT in digital education.
Dr Haji have experiences for more than twelve years now of student supervision both undergraduate and postgraduate. He has been supervised several students from the three universities in Zanzibar, namely the State University of Zanzibar, Zanzibar University and Abdulrahman Al-Sumait University. The following few research titles that Dr Haji has supervised: SUZA Event Management with Spatial Information System, Mobile App for Livestock Health Management Information System, WEB Based and GIS Based System for Shehia Management Information System, SUZA E-notice Board, Hotel Finder Mobile Application, Movie Library Management System, and Zanzibar Vaccination for Travelers Information System, Methadone Management System, Driver Licenses Renewal Alert and Verification Application, the Adoption of Cloud Computing to Facilitate Organization Efficiency, Geospatial Assessment of Impact of Sand Mining Activities in Zanzibar, and Assessment of Climate Change Effects of Rice Agricultural Zone using GIS and Remote Sensing Technology.
