Bio

Said K. Juma has a doctoral degree in inclusive education from the University of Jyväskylä, an MA in Applied Social Psychology, a BA in Sociology from the University of Dar es Salaam, and a Diploma in Language Studies with Education from the Institute of Kiswahili and Foreign Languages.

He is the dean of the School of Education at the State University of Zanzibar, Tanzania. He has extensive experience in teaching education courses, including educational research methods, inclusive education, action research, sociology of education, inclusive pedagogy, community-based inclusive development, and principles of guidance and counselling. Internationally, he is an active member of the Enabling Education Network CIC, a consortium of inclusive education experts.

Locally, Said Juma is an active member of the Zanzibar National Steering Committees for Community-Based Inclusive Development and Inclusive Education. He has worked closely with the Madrassa Early Childhood Programme – Zanzibar, Disabled People Organizations (DPOs), and the Zanzibar Federation of DPOs to advocate for the right to education for children with disabilities. Additionally, he is active in supporting DPOs to advocate for disability mainstreaming in various sectors.

As an expert in teacher professional development for inclusion, he has also been working with the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Zanzibar to provide professional support to serving teachers to improve their inclusive pedagogical skills.
