Key Project Members

The overall objective of the BSU 4 SUZA partnership is to strengthen the capacity of SUZA to deliver high-quality postgraduate education and to undertake intervention research that effectively engages relevant stakeholders, informs policies, decision-making and practices that promote sustainable development within communities as well as the public and private sectors of Zanzibar. 

BSU 4 focus on intervention based research on the thematic areas of Environmental Public Health (EPH) and Marine and Coastal Ecosystem Health and Services (MaCES). Moreover, BSU 4 will focus on strengthening postgraduate education, university-wide services, and infrastructure to support research and research-based teaching. These priorities are of high relevance to the socio-economic needs of the Zanzibar society and align with the Zanzibar Development Vision of 2050. 

BSU 4 involved three outcome areas: 

Outcome area 1: Stronger organisation and systems for research training and research processes 

  1. Enhancing the departmental capacity to undertake intervention studies
  2. Integration of RBT & OBL at postgraduate education: 
  3. Developing PhD programme to support competitive postgraduate education

Outcome area 2: More systematic research outreach practices and networks

Enhancing research communication & dissemination

  1. Mainstreaming community outreach practices within research projects:
