Zanzibar, Tanzania \u2014 The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) has strengthened its collaboration with the Tanzania Resilience Academy following discussions with Prof. Niina K\u00e4yhk\u00f6 from the Department of Geography and Geology at the University of Turku, Finland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. K\u00e4yhk\u00f6, who represents the Resilience Academy in collaboration with SUZA, held discussions with the Deputy Vice Chancellor \u2013 Planning, Finance and Administration, Prof. Jamal Jumanne Athuman, alongside SUZA academics and Resilience Academy partners, Dr. Mary Khatib, Eng. Dr. Abdulrahim and Mr. Masoud Mmanga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between SUZA and the Tanzania Resilience Academy, particularly in areas that promote climate resilience, digital skills, research, innovation and practical learning opportunities for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Areas of Collaboration<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tanzania Resilience Academy supports a range of activities aimed at building knowledge and practical skills in climate resilience and sustainable development. Key areas include Climate Risk Databases, Industrial Placement, Digital Micro-tasking, Online Learning Resources, Research and Innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through these activities, SUZA students have opportunities to gain practical experience, participate in research and digital data collection, access online learning resources and contribute to initiatives addressing environmental and climate-related challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SUZA Students Supporting Coastal Management<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, 15 SUZA students participating in the Resilience Academy internship programme are collecting digital data related to aquaculture sites in Zanzibar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The data collection is being undertaken in support of Zanzibar Fisheries and Marine Resources Institute (ZAFIRI) and the Zanzibar Environmental Management Authority (ZEMA), with the aim of contributing to sustainable coastal management and improved understanding of aquaculture activities across Zanzibar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ongoing student engagement demonstrates how the collaboration provides practical learning opportunities while enabling students to contribute directly to research, digital data generation and sustainable management of Zanzibar\u2019s coastal resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of continued collaboration between SUZA, the University of Turku and the Tanzania Resilience Academy in advancing research, innovation, climate resilience, digital learning and student skills development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
