The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), in collaboration with New York University (NYU) and UNICEF Zanzibar, has successfully concluded the “Systems Approach to Climate Change: Global Field Experience” training programme, held from 17\u201326 June 2026 at ZIToD, Maruhubi, Zanzibar.

\u200eThe Guest of Honour, Mr. Khamis Abdulla Said, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training Zanzibar, commended SUZA for establishing a strong partnership with New York University, describing the initiative as an important step toward improving higher education, research, and global cooperation in tackling environmental challenges.

\u200eSpeaking on behalf at the event, SUZA Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Dkt Said Khamis Juma, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships that promote innovative learning, research, and practical solutions to climate change. He noted that the programme reflects SUZA’s vision of preparing future leaders to respond effectively to global environmental challenges.

\u200eThe Programme Coordinator, Prof. Abubakar Diwani Bakari, explained that the training created a unique platform for students from SUZA and NYU to learn together, exchange experiences, and develop practical approaches to climate resilience and sustainable environmental management.

\u200eUNICEF Zanzibar Representative Mrs. Laxmi Bhawani emphasized that climate change continues to pose serious risks to children and communities, calling for stronger collaboration among institutions to develop sustainable solutions. Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of the Zanzibar Youth Council encouraged young people to take an active role in environmental conservation and climate action.
