The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inclusive education, innovation, and international collaboration during the Breaking Education Barriers: Inclusion, Rehabilitation and Technology (BERT) Project Closing Conference held in Kigali, Rwanda from 18\u201322 May 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representing SUZA, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdi T. Abdalla, delivered remarks during the opening ceremony, where he emphasized the growing importance of ensuring that technological advancement serves all members of society without exclusion. Addressing university leaders, researchers, policymakers, and development partners, Prof. Abdalla noted that while the world is experiencing rapid developments in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, big data, and smart technologies, equal attention must be given to inclusivity, accessibility, and human-centered innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe question before us is not only how technology advances, but how we ensure that no one is left behind in the process,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Abdalla highlighted that the BERT Project has created an important platform for strengthening inclusive education, rehabilitation services, assistive technologies, and accessibility support for students with disabilities. Through the collaboration, SUZA has enhanced institutional capacity, expanded expertise, increased awareness, and strengthened regional and international partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He congratulated researchers, students, project teams, and all institutional partners for the significant achievements realized throughout the implementation of the project, recognizing their dedication and commitment in generating knowledge and delivering meaningful impact to communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on the future, Prof. Abdalla emphasized that the conference should not be viewed as the end of a project cycle, but rather as the beginning of a new phase of collaboration, innovation, and shared learning. He further reaffirmed SUZA\u2019s commitment to strengthening partnerships through collaborative research, academic exchanges, innovation initiatives, and future projects that address emerging global challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Acting Vice Chancellor also expressed SUZA\u2019s sincere appreciation to the University of Rwanda, JAMK University of Applied Sciences, Tampere University, and all BERT consortium partners for their continued collaboration and contribution toward advancing inclusive education.
