The project focusing on mangrove biomass and carbon stock assessment in Zanzibar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project integrates&nbsp;field-based forest inventory, remote sensing, GIS, and machine learning approaches&nbsp;to generate accurate baseline data for blue carbon accounting, climate reporting (NDC\/REDD+), and sustainable mangrove management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the project\u2019s&nbsp;capacity-building component, partial research grants are available to support&nbsp;MSc and PhD students&nbsp;whose research aligns with the project objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Available Positions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MSc Students:&nbsp;Partial research support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PhD Students:&nbsp;Partial research suppor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Host Institutions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eligibility Criteria<\/strong><br>Applicants must meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be a&nbsp;continuing MSc or PhD student&nbsp;with&nbsp;good academic and research progress<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be&nbsp;registered at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA)&nbsp;or&nbsp;Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), or staff of the two universities who is doing either MSc or PhD.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a research interest aligned with one or more of the following areas:<br>\u25e6 Mangrove ecology, forestry, or blue carbon<br>\u25e6 Biomass and carbon stock estimation<br>\u25e6 Remote sensing and GIS applications<br>\u25e6 Machine learning in environmental monitoring<br>\u25e6 Climate change mitigation and adaptation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be willing to participate in&nbsp;fieldwork, data analysis, capacity-building activities, and dissemination outputs&nbsp;of the project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate commitment to completing the research within the project timeframe<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Research Themes (Indicative)<\/strong><br>Successful applicants will align their research with one or more of the following themes:<br>\u25e6 Mangrove biomass and carbon stock assessment<br>\u25e6 Integration of field data and satellite imagery (Sentinel, PlanetScope)<br>\u25e6 Machine learning models for biomass and carbon estimation<br>\u25e6 Mangrove degradation, restoration, and afforestation planning<br>\u25e6 Blue carbon valuation and climate policy support<br>\u25e6 GIS-based decision-support tools for mangrove management<br><strong>Nature of Support<\/strong><br>The&nbsp;partial research grant&nbsp;may cover selected costs, including:<br>\u25e6 Field data collection expenses<br>\u25e6 Research logistics and field allowances<br>\u25e6 Data acquisition and analysis support<br>\u25e6 Participation in trainings, workshops, and dissemination activities<br>\u26a0\ufe0f&nbsp;<strong>Note:<\/strong> The grant does not cover full tuition fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Application Requirements<\/strong><br>Interested candidates should submit the following documents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One-page concept note&nbsp;outlining:<br>\u25e6 Research title<br>\u25e6 Problem statement<br>\u25e6 Objectives<br>\u25e6 Proposed methodology<br>\u25e6 Relevance to the CRG 13 project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Updated CV<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proof of registration&nbsp;as a continuing MSc or PhD student<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brief progress report&nbsp;endorsed by the supervisor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letter of support from the academic supervisor<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Selection Criteria<\/strong><br>Applications will be evaluated based on:<br>\u25e6 Relevance of the proposed research to project objectives<br>\u25e6 Academic merit and research progress<br>\u25e6 Methodological soundness<br>\u25e6 Potential contribution to national climate and blue economy priorities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Supervision and Reporting<\/strong><br>Selected students will work under the supervision of the&nbsp;Project Research Team, led by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">Principal Investigator:<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">Co-Principal Investigator:<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">Collaborator:<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">Dr. Abubakar Diwani Bakari<br>Senior Lecturer &amp;
