The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), through the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic, Research and Consultancy (DVC-ARC), has successfully concluded a comprehensive five-day capacity-building workshop aimed at enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Senate Secretariat. Held from 10th to 14th November 2025, the workshop represents a strategic initiative designed to reinforce the Secretariat\u2019s role in supporting the University\u2019s academic governance framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This intensive programme was meticulously crafted to equip Secretariat members with the requisite knowledge, skills, and tools to administer academic activities in accordance with the Senate\u2019s mandate. By aligning administrative practices with SUZA\u2019s Establishment Acts, the University seeks to uphold the principles of transparency, credibility, and institutional integrity in all academic processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Josephat Buhenyenge, a seasoned academic administrator from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), whose expertise in higher education governance brought valuable perspectives to the sessions. Participants engaged in a series of interactive modules covering the effective coordination of Senate meetings, accurate documentation and record-keeping protocols, and the integration of governance models and best practices drawn from leading institutions both within Tanzania and abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the closing ceremony, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic, Research and Consultancy) reiterated the importance of the initiative as part of SUZA\u2019s broader commitment to strengthening academic administration. He emphasised that a robust and well-resourced Senate Secretariat is essential for ensuring that academic matters are processed with efficiency, transparency, and strict adherence to regulatory frameworks. He further noted that such efforts are instrumental in fostering a culture of academic excellence and institutional accountability across the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Buhenyenge commended SUZA for its proactive approach to institutional development and its unwavering dedication to enhancing governance systems. He encouraged the Secretariat to pursue continuous improvement through peer learning, professional development, and collaborative engagement with other universities and academic bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The successful completion of this workshop marks a significant milestone in SUZA\u2019s ongoing journey to fortify its internal governance structures.
